Our Taper King Guide Combs have a built-in taper to take the guess work out of cutting your hair. One end of the comb cuts at the indicated length while the other end of the comb cuts at a different, longer length, resulting in a clean taper or fade! Each end corresponds to standard hair clipper cut lengths (#1, #2, #3, etc.), taking the guess work out of cutting your hair exactly like you want to!
Simply clip on the Taper King Guide Comb onto your hair clippers to achieve the perfect taper or fade today (when ordering, be sure to select the guards that fit your specific clipper brand)!
Follow the below instructions to use the Taper King Guide Combs sequentially to create any taper hair length desired or simply to just clean up around the ear.
1. Attach either the Right or Left Taper King Guide Comb to your clipper. (we recommend setting the taper/adjustment lever on your clippers to the open position initially and close the lever as desired for a closer cut.)
2. Orient the clippers with the thicker side of the guard above the thinner side and, beginning at the front of the face, cut around the ear at a 45 degree angle using a smooth motion.
3. Continue around the back of the head and pass around the opposite ear.
4. Attach the other guard and repeat steps 1- 3, starting on the opposite side of the head.
5. Once the desired taper or fade has been achieved, attach the corresponding standard hair clipper cut lengths to your clippers and finish the cut. For example, if using a Ruby (#1 to #3) Taper King Guide Comb, use a #1 to cut all hair below the fade line and use a #3 to cut all the hair above the fade line.
Order now and enjoy the ease & convenience of clean tapers and fades from the comfort of your home, all while saving money!

I’ve been cutting my own hair for a while and have tried a lot of different guards and tools that claim to make fades easier. Most of them feel gimmicky, but these actually make sense once you use them. The angled design helps blend the transition between lengths when you’re working up the sides and around the back of the head. It doesn’t replace basic clipper technique, but it definitely makes it easier to avoid harsh lines, especially if you’re doing your own taper.I’m using Wahl 5 Star clippers and the guards fit perfectly and feel secure, just like standard guards. They glide through my hair smoothly and don’t snag.Overall, this is a simple idea that actually helps, especially for people doing self cuts or maintaining their fade between barber visits.
I’m new to cutting my own hair and these made the taper around my ears way easier to blend. They snap right onto my Novah clippers and stay secure while cutting. Really helpful if you’re learning to do your own cuts!
I'm not a barber at all, just a guy who trims his own hair at home. The hardest part for me has always been getting the taper to look smooth instead of having a visible line. The angled design really helps soften the line when tapering the sides. They also fit perfectly on my TPOB Play clippers with no issues. Definitely worth it if you're learning to do your own cuts.Way better value than a barber and more convenient than using multiple different guards for one trim. These are easy to use and easy to rate 5 stars!
So, bought these on a whim to try and see if they’d work for at home hair cuts for my kid. I was able to use them the first try to give my kid a haircut and it turned out great! They seem really solid and made of good quality plastic. Definitely interested in trying some of their other offerings!
I bought a previous set from Taper King that was FDM 3D printed a few years ago. It held up great for the most part, however the tapers were difficult to clean and brittle. This new version is a great improvement and are vastly superior to the FDM 3D printed ones. There's no print lines so they're easier to clean and the material feels just as strong as my Wahl factory set.Outside of comparing them to the previous version. These tapers are ones that can't be found anywhere else from what I'm aware of. They save time because you can get a clean thick taper with one guard instead of having to switch out different flat guards a bunch of times. I get a much cleaner cut with these than taking a bunch of different sized guards and I am less prone to making mistakes using these tapers. They're very easy to use and are a must have both for home use and professionally.Included in my review are the new set on the left and the FDM 3D printed set on the right.
